Credit grantor

This column contains two important items: the name and account number of each reference. The creditor's name is often abbreviated. The account number is indicated immediately following the creditor's name.

Some creditors report a different name than their publicly known brand; some accounts may also be listed twice under different creditors. In such cases, a comparison of the reported account numbers will help the applicant and processor identify the account.

A few creditors, notably American Express, omit the full account number in their reports to the credit bureau.
