After sharing tons of information with the audience last night in a short amount of time, this made me want to write this. Over and over I was getting a lot of questions as these people were preparing for homeownership. They would be purchasing a home within a few months to a few years. No better time like the present to get everything in order to make home ownership enjoyable right! I believe as a mortgage blog writer, I must share with you who I consider to be the top four people in the mortgage decision.
1) You – the consumer. You are number one. Why you ask? Because at the end of the day, as the consumer you are the only one who has to pay this mortgage or lose the home?
2) You – when you first decide to purchase a home, you seek guidance from a mortgage broker or a lender. They give you information. It is your responsibility to research the information you are given and make sure you understand every facet of what you have been told.
3) Mortgage Broker or Lender – I do believe they should educate you about the entire process. Everyone who purchases a home will not know the ins and outs; however the broker or lender could fill in the gaps.
4) You – before signing any document, do your due diligence. If this means you have to buy books in order to educate yourself, then that is what you do. Do not go blindly into purchasing a home. Owning a home should be a great experience that you enjoy for a lifetime. Do not let a lack of information lead you to make a hasty decision.
Now, there might be people that disagree with this post. As I said in the beginning, at the end of the day you have to pay your mortgage. Not your mortgage broker, realtor, banker or lender. You, the consumer.
