Mortgage brokers, mortgage agents, and mortgage lending

This is one of those stories that I could not pass up that I saw on HUD website. Why because it is talking about HUD reaching a $500,000 settlement with a mortgage company in Atlanta . Apparently what happened is South Star Funding, LLC discriminated against African Americans and Hispanics by refusing to make loans on any row house valued at less than $100,000 and on all row houses in Baltimore . Now I have to say, if someone was interested in purchasing a row house that was valued at less than a $100,000 don’t you think they were being smart about their own finances and what they could handle? Do not penalize a person for choosing a property that is within their means. Sure, I do not know all the details but if I were choosing a property, I would choose what benefits me not the mortgage company.
