I want to share one more item with you from my interview with TaWana Furbush. She is very knowledgeable about the industry and very passionate about what she does.
Question: I have done many stories regarding mortgage fraud, tell me your number one "red flag" that people need to watch out for in regards to mortgage.
Furbush: Never do transactions with cash or a handshake. Every transaction should create a paper trail. Educate yourself, do your due diligence and ask questions to make an informed decision and avoid serious problems. Read everything. Do not allow the mortgage broker to fudge your application process to get you into a home. If there are any answers to questions that you feel uncomfortable with, dig deeper. Consult a Real Estate Attorney or Tax Consultant if needed.
