Before I begin to write this one, I have to tell you this is definitely a push your button subject for me. Why? I am a veteran and it is sad to see the lack of assistance veterans receive. Here is an example. In the news, there was a story about a veteran and his wife battling mortgage fees. Teresa and Phil Lester are both retired veterans. The short part of the story is Phil was injured in when he was in the military. He was listed as disabled by the military. He and his wife decided to purchase a home last year. Based on his disability, Phil and his wife were told they would not have to pay the funding fee which was $7,000. Minutes before closing, the loan officer stated they could not verify his disability. Now, they have to pay the funding fee. Time rolls on and a year later, it still has not been straightened out. Why does this happen? Did this put the family in bind? I have to say that I would have to walk out of that deal based on the incorrect information.
In my opinion, one mistake does not lead to my incurring a consequence due to someone else’s misinformation. Can you believe this happened? After a television station got involved, the bank he was working with agreed to refund the money. Should it have had to go to these lengths?
