Mortgage brokers, mortgage agents, and mortgage lending

Over the last several weeks, I have included a story here and there regarding mortgage fraud. It appears that mortgage fraud is rampant and no one has been safe. I believe that it has happened in every state. Today I read that Utah is among the worst in the nation. Each time I read it one aspect that seems clear is inflated pricing is always a factor or fraudulent documents. Usually those documents included the inflated price. Mortgage fraud hurts many innocent people. When the prices are inflated and they purchase a house they are basing that purchase on incorrect information. The down side is when they find out the truth they are upside down on their loan. How many people would not have bought the home in the first place if they had known the truth? As a mortgage broker or lender, what would you recommend someone do if they are in the process of purchasing a home and are skeptical when it comes to their broker or lender?
