What determines whether you are delinquent in a mortgage? If you are at least 30 days past due in your mortgage payments you are counted delinquent. Circumstances happen that could prevent you from paying mortgage. You could lose your job, illness, or even a hurricane. Remember after the hurricanes hit last year, there were many people without homes. However, if I remember correctly they still had to pay on a home they no longer had. Or if there home was not in a livable condition, they still had to pay. A lot of the people that went through the hurricane no longer had jobs. How would you pay on a home you could not live in or that was now destroyed if you did not have a job? What would you recommend if you were in this situation?
